Underwater diversity surrounding the Lavezzi Islands
The Lavezzi Islands are situated in the Straits of Bonifacio between Corsica and Sardinia. This nature reserve with its sea-swept rocky landscape interspersed with a labyrinth of narrow sea passages and secluded coves is one of the prettiest dive sites that the MS Galiote visits. It takes around an hour to get to the Lavezzi Islands from Bonifacio.
The diversity of the underwater life and scenery around the islands is astonishing. Gorgonians, sponges and zoanthids provide vivid splashes of colour. Goldline, monkfish and sea bream will be standing members of your entourage. Numerous grottos and overhangs overgrown with amazing flora have formed among the stacked rock massifs. Depths here are between 5 and 35 metres which means that there is scope for a wide spectrum of different kinds of dives, and that makes this the perfect setting for relaxed diving, whatever your level of experience.
Beginners and children can enjoy their first diving experiences in the sheltered coves under Günther’s expert guidance. There are sandy beaches with areas suitable for swimming, you can go for an island walk to the Lavezzi Cemetery, climb some of the interesting and varied rock formations or make the most of this wonderful snorkelling territory. All of which means there’s plenty to do for families, too. |
